Evening Discussion: Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel

Day Four: Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel

Tour of the Vatican Museum as Patrons of the Arts:

  •     Entrance to the Museum Before the General Public

  • Visit the Museum with focus on the Sistine Chapel an the Raffaello Stanze

  •     Tour the Restoration Labs

  • The World of the Swiss Guard

Afternoon: Visit to Santi Quattro Coronati 

Evening Discussion: The Restoration of the Sistine Chapel

Day Five: Caravaggio

Morning Lecture: Caravaggio, Hero of the Baroque, San Luigi dei Francesi, San Agostino

Tour of the Galleria Borghese

Late Afternoon: Caravaggio and Santa Maria del Popolo

Day Six: Tivoli

Stroll to St. Ivo alle Sapienza-The World of Francesco Borromini

Depart for Tivoli in hired van

Tour the Villa d’Este and the Gardens in Tivoli

Lunch at the fabulous Ristorante Sibilla

Picnic Pizza Dinner at Piazza San Pietro with Evening Discussion

Day Seven: St. Ignatius Loyola and St. Filippo Neri

Morning Lecture: “Two Heroes of the Counter-Reformation: St. Filippo Neri and St. Ignatius Loyola”

Tour the Chiesa Nuova, the Gesu, and S. Ignazio

Afternoon: Bernini, Borromini, and the Rivalry that Shaped Baroque Rome

Visit S. Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, Santa Maria della Vittoria, San Andrea alle Quirinale

Day Eight: Underground Rome

Scavi Tour: Under St. Peter’s to the Final Resting Place of the Apostle Peter
